Our visit just epitomizes why flying in the US is so different from the UK and why going to the US is such a pleasure.
The trip from Morey to Oshkosh is straight forward. Sixty-two miles and with flight following from Madison as easy as it goes.
Ten miles from Oshkosh I gave then a call and they asked me to report 5 miles left base for 27. I did and then was cleared to land.
We parked at Basler, the FBO. After checking in they took us round to the Museum in their courtesy car. The lineman then gave us a card with a number to call to be picked up when we were ready.
The Museum was amazing and some photos are here. When we had finished, we called Basler and the lineman arrive. “What are you doing for lunch?” he asked. He offered to either drop us off at a restaurant and then pick us up again or go through the drive through. We chose the drive through and had this impromptu picnic by the plane.
We finished lunch, washed up and I went to settle up. I know we took no fuel but I at least expected to pay for parking, we had been there the best part of the day. No charge at all. Its quite embarrassing to receive all that hospitality. Mind you I did tip the line man for his efforts.
The departure from Oshkosh was just as straight forward. This time the runway was 09 and we took off over Lake Winnebago and did a turn to the south west. 40 minutes later we were back at Morey. It was all too easy.
